Freelance Commissions

Ladies and gents, I'm opening up an offer for portraiture drawings. If you are willing to pay for a one-of-a-kind pencil portrait of yourself or a loved one (or an actor/actress/pop star) from a photo, I'm open for business.

I charge by the hour on how long it takes me to do the work and shipping of the actual piece of artwork.

If any of you are interested, send me an email at JenniferLHolton@gmail.com

I FINALLY SAW IT.

Tue Jul 27, 2010, 9:39 PM
INCEPTION.

*flails*

I came right home, searched my room for something I could use as a totem, and spent the next five hours trying to process what my brain just soaked up.

It's incredible.

I mean it's been a while since I've gone to the theater and been confused about why it was so late in the day when I just went inside to watch my movie (film, in this case—I'll explain that in a second) what seemed like only just an hour earlier. Inception is by no means a short film. It's long. It needs to be. Hell, there needs to be more of it. I'd sit through an hour of Arthur training Ariadne or Eames teaching her how to pick pockets or something.

So I mentioned that I consider this a "film" instead of a movie. To me, a movie is something that entertains you. A film entertains you but leaves such an impression on you that you can have long, philosophical/psychological/insightful discussions about it even days after seeing it. For example, I'll compare two movies with one actor in common: Iron Man versus The Soloist.

Iron Man was a good movie. It entertained me, it kept me from feeling that passage of time, and I was glued to the screen the entire time. For the action and acting.

The Soloist was a good film. It kept me from feeling that passage of time, sucked me into the shoes of Steve Lopez, and gave me an experience. I was still glued to the screen, but I had lost that somewhat conscious thought of: this is Robert Downey Jr. and Jaime Foxx on the screen. I felt it. I didn't just watch it.

That's what Inception did to me. It stopped my brain from jumping from topic to topic while the images played on screen. I stayed there with Arthur as he tried to figure out a way to induce the kick without gravity. I was only in the moment when Fischer finally opened the safe. I felt it.

That's about all I can muster at the moment. I'm sure, after going to watch it again, I'll be able to write pages upon pages about what I brought back with me once the credits started...
